Halloween Cocktails: Seven Spooky Serves from the Booze Bar

These seven Halloween cocktails come straight from the Booze Bar, and every one has a film to follow along with. No guesswork, no vague measures, no bar equipment you do not own. Press play, pour along, done.

There are two jug serves for when the house is full, four short serves for when it is not, and one that genuinely looks like something crawled out of a crypt. Pick a signature drink for the night, or work your way down the list.

Devil’s Sangria

A jug serve built on Casillero del Diablo, which is the right wine for the occasion on name alone. Blackberries, pomegranate and blood orange make it dark, rich and deceptively easy to drink.

Ingredients

  • Ice, to fill a jug
  • 1 cup blackberries
  • A few orange slices
  • 1 cup pomegranate juice
  • Dash of elderflower liqueur
  • Dash of blood orange juice
  • Half a bottle of Casillero del Diablo

Method

  1. Fill a jug with ice.
  2. Add 1 cup of blackberries and a few orange slices.
  3. Pour in 1 cup of pomegranate juice.
  4. Add a dash of elderflower liqueur.
  5. Add a dash of blood orange juice.
  6. Pour in half a bottle of Casillero del Diablo.
  7. Stir and serve, garnished with blackberries

Purple Rain

The other jug serve, and the one that gets photographed. Blue curacao and grenadine give it that bruised purple colour, and it scales to whatever size your night turns into.

Ingredients

  • Ice, to fill a jug
  • 75ml Smirnoff Vodka
  • 75ml Beefeater Gin
  • 50ml Bols Blue Curacao
  • Fresh lime juice
  • 50ml Cherry Sourz
  • Soda water, to top
  • 100ml grenadine

Method

  1. Add ice to a jug.
  2. Pour in 75ml Smirnoff Vodka and 75ml Beefeater Gin.
  3. Add 50ml Bols Blue Curacao.
  4. Add fresh lime juice.
  5. Add 50ml Cherry Sourz.
  6. Top with soda water.
  7. Add 100ml grenadine, then stir and serve.

Poison Apple

Cider and Fireball, which sounds alarming and tastes like toffee apples. The edible glitter is what tips it from a drink into a centrepiece, and it costs almost nothing.

Ingredients

  • Ice, to fill a glass
  • 80ml Inch’s Cider
  • 80ml cranberry juice
  • 60ml Fireball Whisky
  • 30ml grenadine
  • Edible glitter

Method

  1. Fill a glass with ice.
  2. Add 80ml Inch’s Cider.
  3. Add 80ml cranberry juice.
  4. Add 60ml Fireball Whisky.
  5. Add 30ml grenadine.
  6. Add edible glitter and stir.
  7. Shake and serve.

Vampire’s Kiss

The dessert cocktail of the set. Absolut Vanilia and Disaronno with pineapple and cream, shaken into something pale and silky, then served in a sugar rimmed martini glass with a set of plastic fangs on the side.

Ingredients

  • Ice, to fill a shaker
  • 50ml Absolut Vanilia
  • 25ml Disaronno
  • 50ml pineapple juice
  • 50ml half cream
  • Fresh lime juice

Method

  1. Fill a shaker with ice.
  2. Add 50ml Absolut Vanilia.
  3. Add 25ml Disaronno.
  4. Add 50ml pineapple juice.
  5. Add 50ml half cream and a squeeze of fresh lime juice.
  6. Shake.
  7. Serve in a sugar rimmed martini glass and garnish with vampire teeth.

Witches’ Gold

Four ingredients and a cinnamon stick doing double duty as a stirrer. Jack Daniel’s Honey with lemon and ginger beer is the most sessionable drink here, and the one people will ask for twice.

Ingredients

  • Lots of ice
  • 50ml Jack Daniel’s Honey
  • 15ml fresh lemon juice
  • Ginger beer, to top
  • Cinnamon stick and a lemon twist

Method

  1. Fill a glass with lots of ice.
  2. Add 50ml Jack Daniel’s Honey.
  3. Add 15ml fresh lemon juice.
  4. Mix with a cinnamon stick.
  5. Top up with ginger beer.
  6. Garnish with a lemon twist.

Zombie

Two rums, pineapple and lime, shaken and poured into a skull glass with a drizzle of grenadine bleeding through it. If you own one novelty glass, this is the drink to own it for.

Ingredients

  • Ice, to fill a shaker
  • 25ml Kraken Spiced Rum
  • 25ml Bacardi
  • 25ml fresh lime juice
  • 100ml pineapple juice
  • Red grenadine, to finish

Method

  1. Add ice to a shaker.
  2. Add 25ml Kraken Spiced Rum.
  3. Add 25ml Bacardi.
  4. Add 25ml fresh lime juice.
  5. Add 100ml pineapple juice.
  6. Shake well and pour into a glass over ice.
  7. Drizzle in some red grenadine and leave it to bleed through.

Blood Orange Margarita

The most grown-up serve of the seven. El Jimador Blanco with Cointreau, lime and blood orange, shaken hard and strained into a coupe. Sharp, bittersweet and the right colour without any help.

  • 25ml El Jimador Blanco
  • 25ml Cointreau
  • 25ml fresh lime juice
  • 100ml blood orange juice
