Tips for Getting It Right
No shaker needed. This is a built drink, not a shaken one. Everything goes straight in the glass. That is what makes it perfect for a party, because you can make ten in the time it takes to shake two.
Use a good ginger beer. Fever-Tree, Fentimans or Old Jamaica all work well. Standard ginger ale is too mild here. You want proper ginger heat to balance the berry sweetness.
Fresh lime matters. Bottled lime juice will work at a pinch, but fresh lime brings oils and brightness that the bottled version lacks. Half a lime is about right.
Raspberry syrup is easy to make. Equal parts caster sugar and water, brought to a simmer with a handful of fresh or frozen raspberries. Strain, cool, done. It keeps in the fridge for a week.
Scale it up. Pre-mix the gin, lime and syrup in a jug. When someone wants a drink, fill a glass with ice, pour a measure from the jug and top with ginger beer. Assembly line cocktail making.
What to Serve It With
The Flora Dora is a natural partner for lighter summer food. Grilled fish, prawn skewers, halloumi and salads all work beautifully. The berry and ginger combination also pairs well with spiced lamb, Thai salads and anything with a sweet chilli glaze.

FAQs
Can I use a different gin?
Yes, any berry or fruit gin will work. Standard London Dry gin is fine too, but increase the raspberry syrup to 15ml to compensate for the missing berry sweetness.
What can I use instead of raspberry syrup?
Grenadine works but is sweeter and less fruity. Crème de framboise (raspberry liqueur) is a brilliant upgrade if you have it, use 15ml and drop the syrup entirely.
How strong is it?
With 50ml of gin at 37.5% ABV, it is roughly 1.5 units, similar to a large glass of wine. The ginger beer dilutes it into a long, sessionable drink.
Is a Flora Dora the same as a Floradora?
Yes, same drink, different spellings. You will see it written both ways.
Can I make it without ginger beer?
You can use soda water, but the drink loses its defining character. The ginger spice is what lifts the berry sweetness into something balanced.
